Bob DeRose is the partner in charge of the wage & hour/overtime violation division of Barkan Neff Handelman Meizlish, LLP and also handles Ohio workers’ compensation and union side labor matters. Mr. DeRose is a native of Western Pennsylvania and a 1988 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College with a degree in Economics. He is a 1991 graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law, where he was active in workers’ rights issues. Mr. DeRose was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1991 and has since been admitted to the United States District Courts for both the Southern and Northern Districts of Ohio and the Middle and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania, the Ohio Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third and Sixth Circuits, and the Commonwealth Courts of Pennsylvania.
Mr. DeRose is the current president of the Workers Injury Law and Advocacy Group (WILG), a national organization of lawyers based in Washington, D.C. committed exclusively to representing injured workers’ and their families. Mr. DeRose also has served as a Trustee of the Ohio Association for Justice where he assumed various leadership roles. He also is a member of the American Association for Justice along with the Ohio State and Columbus Bar Associations. He is a member of the AAJ Leaders Forum.
Mr. DeRose is a frequent lecturer on Workers’ Compensation, Fair Labor Standards Act and Medicare topics. He is an adjunct faculty member at Capital University Law School. Bob is a co-author of Ohio Workers’ Compensation Law, a practice guide, published by the West Group. This book is a practice guide used by many of his colleagues in their Ohio Workers’ Compensation practices.
Mr. DeRose is very active in workers’ rights issues. He has served on the executive committee of the Columbus Jobs with Justice and was previously President of the Greater Columbus Workers’ Rights Board. Bob also serves on the National Board of Directors for Interfaith Worker Justice based in Chicago.
